Electric vs nitrogen cryotherapy
What is cryotherapy?
Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is a short-term passive physical therapy that has a systemic effect. The range of temperatures used in this kind of treatment is -100C to -160C and takes place in a Cryochamber specialized for a safe and sufficient procedure.
Cryotherapy can reduce inflammation that causes aches and pains throughout the entire body. During each session, the exposure to the cold temperatures increases the production of norepinephrine and endorphins that will help to boost your overall energy and mood
Nitrogen-Based Modality
- Turns liquid nitrogen into gas then pushes it in the cryo chamber. While Nitrogen gas is naturally occurring, the thick vapor displaces in the air around you which minimizes the available oxygen to breathe. For that reason, your head and neck are not exposed inside the sauna so that it is possible to take deep breaths above sauna.
- Unfortunately, do to lack of oxygen during the session can result in a headache or loss of consciousness.
- Nitrogen saunas can also cause burns to the skin do to thick heavy concentrations of nitrogen surrounding the body.
Electric-Based Modality
- Electric based cryotherapy is much safer and more effective. Uses electricity to compress air and trigger a decrease in temperature. By using the natural air, it is safe to breathe inside the chamber. Because of this, you are allowed to expose your neck and head as well as the rest of your body. By doing so, you are activating the vagus nerve throughout your body. Since your head is included in the nitrogen-free cryo chamber treatment, you not only receive the physical benefits, but also reoxygenation of the brain. Cryotherapy has been shown to reduce cortisol, which reduces stress, and helps you sleep better so you have more energy.
- The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in the autonomic nervous system and its stimulation is extremely important for overall health and well-being. Due to exposure of the head and neck (where the vagus nerve begins) electric walk-in room cryotherapy causes 30% more of an autonomic nervous system response in the body, stimulating the vagus nerve immediately. When your body sends alerts through the vagus nerve warning the body that it’s too cold it signals the brain to turn down the stress response and reduce the production of inflammatory cytokines. Therefore, reducing inflammation in conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis.
- The stimulation of the nerve can result in many short-term benefits including wakefulness, consciousness, improved memory, lower blood pressure reduction of stress, anxiety, and improved brain function. It also aids in digestion due to the body undergoing enhanced relaxation
